I was recently diagnosed with the this ailment. However, I have pain involved. I cannot play properly when using my left hand. My middle finger gets very stiff and simply does not work like it used to. About 2 years ago, I began teaching a guitar class where I am a teacher. I believe playing guitar has screwed up my saxophone playing. I recently had a fasciaectomy done on my left forearm. The day following the surgery, I was able to practice for two hours without the problem. near the end of the session, i noticed it creeping back in so I stopped. I went back to my doctor ( a hand, arm specialist). he had me go for an EMG, which showed nothing wrong. he was baffled, so he sent me to another doctor. This doctor told me I have Focal Dystonia. I have read that Focal Dystonia has little or no pain. Is this true? If so and I have pain in my fingers, doesa it mean I do not have Focal Dystonia? Thanks.
